Eddie Bloom

Eddie and his twin sister, Sandy, were born to two middle class parents in Lambert, New Jersey—a relatively small town, but a relatively nice one as well. Although their parents could afford a private school education, they sent their children to public school instead, not seeing the difference between the two. The twins always got along well with their parents, and while they did have their rough patches, Oliver and Ava Bloom were good parents, who raised their children to be happy and well adjusted. For the most part.

Growing up, Sandy was always the more outgoing one. She liked to get out there, and get involved, and by virtue of him being her twin, Eddie was usually dragged a long as well. Eddie was usually more of a scholarly type, focusing more on school work and academics, while Sandy was the social butterfly, who liked having more of a social life and more artsy endeavors than good grades. She also tended to be the more passionate one, fighting vehemently for what she felt was right, while Eddie was the cooler head, and tended to be the mediator in the situation. He was always good at debate, and everyone thought he was going to be a lawyer, because he was good at arguing his point, but he surprised everyone by wanting to be an academic instead, choosing to get his doctorate and work as a professor. Sandy, on the other hand, flitted between her interests, unable to make a decision, and eventually settled on music. She had a pretty voice—nothing earth-shattering, but not necessarily mediocre or horrible either—and she signed up for voice lessons once she got into high school in order to try and improve that.

After high school, Eddie got offered a full ride to NYU, while Sandy barely got in to a local arts school as a vocal music major. She tried to focus on her studies, but school wasn’t for her, and she dropped out in the middle of her sophomore year, and followed her brother into the city to find work on her own. That was about the time their powers emerged. She went to an audition with a man who was being increasingly difficult about hiring her. The more frustrated she got, the warmer the room got and, to her surprise, the more agreeable the man became. In the end, she walked out with the job, and as happy as she was to have it—she knew that they weren’t hiring her just because they thought she could sing. She went home and tried to talk to her brother about it, but Eddie didn’t exactly believe her. It wasn’t until a few months later that Eddie’s emerged, when he almost gave a man hypothermia for assaulting his sister.

Their powers are basically their own form of climate control. Eddie can drop the temperature to about zero degrees Fahrenheit, on anything from a specific object, to the entire room around him. This can also effect the emotions of the people around him, in effect “cool” them off. Sandy, on the other hand, does the opposite, both raising temperatures to about 212 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as effecting emotions as well, either as a turn on—she has been known to use it to get men into bed—or to intensify a fight—also a turn on, but more for her than the others involved. Eddie often uses his own ability to counteract his sister, and cool her off, but he can never keep her down for long. Sandy has always been the more fiery of the two of them, and nothing like that can keep her down for too along.

Eddie in Roanoke

Sandy and Eddie arrive in Roanoke some years from the future. In their timeline, in March of 2007, Strain 138 of the Shanti virus was released into the general population by Adam Monroe, and, unwittingly, Peter Petrelli, killing off ninety-three percent of the world’s population. When it was released, the world went into a state of panic, causing anarchy to run in the streets, and driving most of the powered individuals underground in response. Once the initial hysteria had died down, people started to emerge again, but the virus was still a viable threat. In order to protect himself and his sister, Eddie used his power to keep their body temperature low enough that their bodies couldn’t incubate the virus. However, the paranoia and fear never really faded with time, and the containment center that they were being held in, in order to keep the virus out, was full of people who were constantly on the look out for any sign that someone was sick. If anyone was deemed sick by the guards or one of the residents, they were pulled away to a containment facility with the rest of the other people who were sick. As of now, there is still no cure.

Eddie in Eden

Sandy and Eddie traveled westward towards Eden from New York. Their bus broke down about a mile outside of Corvallis, Oregon, where the resistance camp against Adam was located. After talking with Matt about what life was like there, they decided to stay in Corvallis instead of making it all the way to Eden.
